Working to get Hawaiian Heritage Kalo back into production one step at a time. Production is much lower than the past, but we can change that by restoring the waterways and kalo ponds on the 1st Sunday and 3rd Saturday of the month weather and roads permitting. With steward U'i Chong leading the restoration project and coordinator Joseph Stanberry organizing the volunteer ongoing volunteer efforts via the USDA People's Garden, Adventure Garden. The Kamehameha butterfly relies on mamaki as it's main host plant, just as the monarch relies on milkweed to feed it's catapillars. Planting mamaki is a win win as it gives a superfood, it's leaves produce an antioxident herbal "tea" that is x4 more effective at reducing cancer than green tea due to a high amount of catchetins as well as antioxidents preventing dementia and rutin lowering high blood pressure. Berries were traditionally given to children who were feeling legthargic or starting to catch ill.
