OUR SHARED MISSION
To make food available in East Hawaii that is the best quality it can be as well as reducing the economic/environmental burden of importation on are area by finding reasonable amendments/pest solutions that we can make ourselves rather than import. Food quality and availability is the most important cornerstone to wellness in our hands where we can affect positive now by cultivating a relationship between the Earth, the farmers and the consumers.
MEET US AT FARMER'S DAY
Orchidland Farmer's Market 36th and Orchidland Drive on Mondays 4 - Sunset! The first Monday of the month is Farmers Day, a day to support local farmers.
MEET YOUR FARMERS!
Joseph Stanberry leads the Waipi'o Valley clean up in collaboration with the USDA People's Garden, Adventure Garden and Kalo Farmer Ursula Chong to make sure our farm doesn't exist alone, but as a part of healing the East Hawaii Food System together as a team with the other farmers in our area. We stand together with other growers and you can visit us at the Orchidland Farmer's Market Monday at 4PM - Sunset to learn more about us or volunteer opportunities!
A proper soil balance has four components, fungi, bacteria including but not limited to IMOs, ciliates and other protozoa and nematodes (not all of them are bad for the soil). Organic compost made on site helps plants resist drought and revitalize the soil the same way old growth forests do without added chemicals needed. Sakura Mendoza and Joseph Stanberry work together to inoculate properly composted green waste with indigenous microorganisms whenever possible to increase the soil health.
Food is important to living a good life, not just quantity, but quality. Did you know microgreens have more nutrition then their older counter parts, and can boost immunity! Everyone has their own preference, but fresher is always better nutritionally. Irene Bencito has been growing microgreens to boost her own family's immunity, but grows treys to order as well. Email kopehalefarmhouse@gmail.com for details, subject: Microgreen Order.
